Joe Laka

Veteran Sports presenter, Joe Laka has stated that he doubts the credibility of the Radio and television Personality Awards.

As his sports show kicked off on Kessben Fm and TV this morning, Joe Laka was quick to respond to a message sent by a listener asking why Kessben sports could not win an award on the 7th edition of the RTP awards held on 28th October 2017.

Sir Joe, responded by saying; “The RTP awards started very well but now it has turned to concert. In fact they have lost their credibility.”

For someone who has won quite a few awards in his lifetime, this seems like a strange statement to make. Joe Laka feels that the Radio and Television Personality award is bogus.

It’s known as ‘‘Radio and Television Personality Awards’’. But only rarely is the description used without irony.

The award scheme has long been a hokey, try-hard event that never quite achieves the credibility, status or glamour to which it aspires. The uninspiring annual ritual is perhaps more accurately explained as ‘‘awards for friends’’, which is how stakeholders has described it.

Now into its 7th year, the RTP ward has become, by default, the event at which our radio and TV industry tries to celebrate its achievements.

The 2017 edition of the Radio and Television Personality (RTP) Awards came off at the Accra International Centre Saturday night but failed to impress and raise the bar for Awards and events in Ghana.

Do you agree with what Joe Laka said??
